Quebec mosque attack statement

Quebec mosque attack statement – Jan 29, 2017

Shalom, Salaam, Peace,

Canada was changed forever on Sunday January 29th, 2017. An inhumane terrorist attack at a Quebec City mosque left at least six worshippers dead and injured 8 others.

As Canadians, we are horrified that something this incomprehensible is possible in our land of diversity and peace. At this time, we offer our condolences and prayers to the families who have lost their loved ones in this senseless act of terror.

We work with people from Christianity, Jewish, and Islamic faith every day, and we will continue to forge towards engaging Canadians in interfaith and intercultural dialogue. The Institute of Canadian Archives (ICA) stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Muslim community to condemn this despicable act of violence.

“This horrible act against our friends and neighbours leaves an indelible mark on our hearts – we must stay strong and continue our crusade to champion peace, pluralism, and diversity, despite this heartbreaking act of terror”, said Azfar Rizvi, ICA Executive Director.

Recipient of “The Interfaith Dialogue Award” from the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism, and Project Manager for the Hearts & Minds Interfaith Living Library series, Judy Csillag said:

“More than ever, we need to promote sustained intercultural and interfaith dialogues to ensure that something like this never happens again – let us stand united in the face of senseless violence and religious intolerance.”

The Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec (CCIQ) needs to heal. While ICA works with some of our stakeholders to work through this time of mourning and reflection, we suggest donating by cheque or direct deposit according to the instructions provided on the Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec’s (CCIQ) website:
